On July 19th the News and Observer ran an article called Where the Neighborhood Swimmers Meet. It is a nice article where the author reminisces about her past summers as a swim parent and how this summer is different as her daughter has aged out of swim team.

There were several follow up comments from parents that are worth reading too (like this one and this one from our own swim parent Angela Smelcer).

MDCC vs Devereaux Results

The MacDolphins lost a thriller against Deveraux Tuesday night. Results from the meet have been posted. Like last week, posted results include any DQs that were recorded. We believe that some of the MDCC DQ slips ended up in the Devereaux pile so there may be a few that were not recorded. The majority of the DQs this week were in the breast stroke events. We had three heats where timing system glitch caused a loss of times, we continue to working on our process to eliminate any glitches.

MacDolphins fall to Devereaux 259-255

The MacDolphins lost a thriller last night to the Devereaux Devil Rays 259-255. The meet was very close all night and it came down to the relays. The MacDolphins needed to win 7 of the 10 Freestyle Relays to regain the lead but alas it was not to be. The MacDolphins won 6 of the 10 relays. Many of the relays were very close adding to the excitement.

Cary City Meet Results

Results from the Cary City Meet have been posted. 19 MacDolphins swam in the 2011 Cary City Meet. Congratulations to all MacDolphins who swam in CCM, a great time was had by all. Thanks to the parents who helped by volunteering and to Coach Elyse and Coach KB for the breakfast spread and for working with our swimmers all day.

Home Meet vs Deveraux Tuesday July 19th

The MacDolphins final swim meet of the 2011 season is a home meet on Tuesday, July 19th against the Deveraux Devil Rays. Here are some particulars:

Team pictures will be taken before the meet. Swimmers who want an individual picture should be at the pool no later than 3:30. All swimmers need to be at the pool by 4:15 for the team picture.
Swimmers should be check in and be numbered when they arrive so warm ups can start on time after the team picture. The swimmer check in table will be located near the entrance of the pool. Please make sure to check in when you arrive at the pool.
The MDCC snack bar will not be serving food during the swim meet, only candy will be sold from the snack bar. Food will be available for purchase from the Home Swim Meet menu which will be set up under the awning in the baby pool enclosure.
Senior recognition will take place after the Breast Stroke events are complete. The MacDolphins have six seniors graduating this year, please join us as we recognize their achievements and commitments to the MacDolphins swim team.

Scratches and No-Shows

Please don’t wait until the last minute, if your swimmer(s) won’t be at the meet and haven’t scratched yet, please do so ASAP. If you aren’t sure, double check the Deveraux scratch list to make sure your swimmer is listed. The scratch system has been improved to include a confirmation e-mail once the scratch has been entered into the system.

Will your swimmer(s) arrive late or leave early? The MacDolphins’ scratch list allows for “partial scratches” to accommodate those swimmers who will only be a part of a swim meet. If you know you swimmers will miss a portion of the meet, please enter a partial scratch or note it on the e-mail or text message.

NOTE: Telling one of the coaches at swim practice that your swimmer(s) will not be at a meet does not mean they are on the scratch list – you still need to submit your scratch using the web site, email, or text message.

Volunteers

Please check the Deverux Job Assignment page to see where you can help. We are still in need of a few volunteers to fully staff the Deveraux swim meet. All families are asked to volunteer for four (4) positions during the season.
