Tuesday Away Meet vs. Highcroft

On Tuesday, July 6th, the MacDolphins have our first away meet against the Highcroft Hurricanes. Please plan to be on deck, ready for warmups by 5:30 p.m. Click this link for directions.

If you cannot attend this meet, please scratch online, send an email to scratch@macdolphins.org, or send a text message to 919-410-MDCC (919-410-6322). Check the Highscroft scratch list if you are not sure whether your swimmer is scratched. The scratch system has been enhanced – you will now receive a scratch confirmation e-mail when your scratches are entered into the system.

There are several volunteer positions that still need to be filled at this meet:

Girls 6 & Under Kidpusher
Boys 6 & Under Kidpusher
Girls 7 & 8 Kidpusher
Girls 7 & 8 Kidpusher
Heat Sheet Tracker (2nd Half)
Runner (Full Meet)

If you can fill any of these positions, please let Bev Speroff know a.s.a.p.

Please note that the Highcroft swim meet will follow a traditional sequence, i.e., the 6 & Unders will not swim first.

And now, a message from Lori Foernzler …

Hello MacDolphins!

Here we are halfway through the season. Have you seen how far your kids have come? Wow! I stand and watch the kids and am impressed by each one of them. From the seasoned seniors to the brand new 6 and younger, each one has grown leaps and bounds, in and out of the water. They deserve to be commended and so do you.

Here’s the season recap so far. Our first meet was a swim up by 2 positions, and a win. Our second meet was a swim up by 3 positions. Even though this was a loss, it is important to note that the point gap was SIGNIFICANTLY closer than the same meet last year. The latest meet was in division and a win. What does this all mean? To me, it means that our kids are swimming amazingly and improving not only in time but in technique. More importantly the kids are having fun and this comes out in each race. I’m impressed and you should be too.

As we head into the last 3 meets of the season this enthusiam will come along with us. I would ask you all to remind your swimmers that we are guests in someone else’s pool and as guests we need to pick up our area before heading home and continue displaying good sportsmanship. Specifically – we don’t jump in the pool at the end of a meet at someone else’s pool. Cheering, however, is encouraged as is thanking the host team for their hospitality. How we behave will speak more about us as a team than the final score ever will. Without a doubt, an easy achievement for such a terrific group of kids.

MacDolphins vs Glenridge Results

The results from the MacDolphins 313.5 – 200.5 victory over the Glenridge Gators are available. We missed very few times this week but there may be a few errors due to changes made at the starting blocks which didn’t get captured correctly.

Glenridge Swim Meet Postponed to Thursday, July 1st

This week’s swim meet versus The Glenridge Gators has been postponed to Thursday (7/1) due to a thunderstorm. Please be ready for warmups at 5:00 p.m. The meet itself will begin at 6:00.

IMPORTANT!!! IF YOU CANNOT ATTEND THURSDAY’S MEET …

Please scratch online, send an email to scratch@macdolphins.org, or send a text message to 919-410-MDCC (919-410-6322) and make sure the message includes the swimmer’s name(s). In the event of a partial scratch, include which strokes the swimmer(s) will miss.

We will likely have to re-do our heat sheets completely so the sooner you indicate you will not attend, the easier this task will be. If you scratched from Tuesday’s meet you do not need to scratch again for Thursday. You can verify your swimmers are on the scratch list by reviewing the MDCC vs Glenridge Scratch List.

IF YOU WERE SCRATCHED FROM TUESDAY’S MEET BUT CAN NOW ATTEND THURSDAY’S MEET …

2010 Summer Schedule released

Results from MacDolphins vs Glenridge

Results from the MacDolphins swim meet against Apex this past Tuesday are now available for download.

Some notes about the results. The timing system worked very well for the Glenridge meet. We didn’t lose track of swimmers and their heat and lane assignments like we did at the Apex meet.

As well as it ran, we still had a couple of glitches. We had one event where the system never started so we don’t have times for it at all. We had two others where the times are odd. We also had a couple of other missing times scattered through out the meet. We think these are caused by the timing system being reset prematurely as the missing time was almost always the last swimmer to finish a face.

We timed 206 heats and had 3 events with no times which comes out to a 1.45% error rate. We think this is in the acceptable range as a trade off for not having to hand write back up times and staff backup timers but are open to suggestions.
