The results from the Tuesday night’s MacDolphins swim meet against Apex are now available. We apologize for the delay in getting the results posted an in swimmer’s folders. With Mike Walsh being out on vacation, some of the work took longer than usual to complete.

Scratches and No-Shows

Great job this week on getting scratches in early and we had very few no-shows. Thank you parents! This really helps the meet run much smoother.

MacDolphins fall to Apex 309-204

The MacDolphins fell to the Apex Breakers 309-204 Tuesday night. Fortunately the weather cooperated but the meet ran long, finishing after 11:00. The length of the meet was primarily due to the large number of swimmers between Apex and MDCC. Combined, MDCC and Apex had more than 300 swimmers participating in the meet. In the future we’ll do everything we can to collapse heats to run the meet more efficiently.

Several records were set during the meet.

Home Meet vs Apex Tueday June 14th

The MacDolphins first swim meet of the 2011 season is a home meet on Tuesday, June 14th against the Apex Breakers. Here are some particulars:

Swimmers should be at the pool by 4:30 for check in and numbering so warm ups can start on time at 5:00. The swimmer check in table will be located near the entrance of the pool. Please make sure to check in when you arrive at the pool.
6 & Unders will swim all of their events first.
The MDCC snack bar will not be serving food during the swim meet, only candy will be sold from the snack bar. Food will be available for purchase from the Home Swim Meet menu which will be set up under the awning in the baby pool enclosure.
Apex has a large team, about the same size as MDCC (~160 swimmers). With 300+ swimmers and their families, the pool deck will be crowded and this will likely be one of the longer meets of the season.

Scratchs and No-Shows

Please don’t wait until the last minute, if your swimmer(s) won’t be at the meet and haven’t scratched yet, please do so ASAP. If you aren’t sure, double check the Apex scratch list to make sure your swimmer is listed. The scratch system has been improved to include a confirmation e-mail once the scratch has been entered into the system.

Will your swimmer(s) arrive late or leave early? The MacDolphins’ scratch list allows for “partial scratches” to accommodate those swimmers who will only be a part of a swim meet. If you know you swimmers will miss a portion of the meet, please enter a partial scratch or note it on the e-mail or text message.

NOTE: Telling one of the coaches at swim practice that your swimmer(s) will not be at a meet does not mean they are on the scratch list – you still need to submit your scratch using the web site, email, or text message.

2011 Schedule

The preliminary 2011 schedule was released this week. The MacDolphins will begin the season with two home meets followed by three away meets and the close with a home meet. New to the schedule this year is Olive Chapel, MDCC has had meets in the past 2-3 years with the other five clubs.

The results from the last night’s MacDolphins swim meet against the Apex Breakers are now available.

The results are abbreviated due to weather ending the meet early. Scores and place information have been entered and appear on the results.

Unfortunately we missed a few times last night due to a battery issue and a misunderstanding with one of the timers. There is also a good chance that a few times may have been assigned to the wrong swimmer. We had quite a few no-shows and while we make every effort to keep track of which swimmer is in which lane, the changes aren’t always documented. If you see something which doesn’t make sense, contact Mike Walsh and we’ll see what we can do to straighten it out.

MacDolphins vs Apex rescheduled for Wednesday!

The final meet of the season has been rescheduled for tomorrow night due to persistent storms in the area. Bummer.

URGENT

If your swimmers are not swimming Wednesday night, please scratch as soon as possible.

Rescheduling a meet plays havoc with the heat sheet so we need to know if your swimmers are going to scratch as soon as possible. Swimmers that were scratched tonight ARE ASSUMED to be scratched again unless they are unscratched. Scratch (or unscratch) via the web site, via e-mail, or via text message to 919-410-MDCC (6322).

There are a lot of things to do between the end of the meet and the swim team banquet so getting an accurate scratch list will help expedite all of the post meet work.

Volunteers

If the rescheduled meet creates a problem for your volunteer commitment, please recruit someone to replace you, or contact Bev Speroff (psperoff@aol.com) so she can make alternate arrangements.

Parents: We may need fill in volunteers – if you are at the meet and can help, see Bev when you arrive. In particular, Apex is reluctant to use our watches so we may need some extra timers to time lanes 1, 3, and 5 when we have swimmers in Apex lanes. Parents of 7-8 boys and 11-12 girls, your swimmers are most frequently placed in Apex lanes because we significantly outnumber Apex in these two age groups.
