MacDolphins News 06/06

Welcome

Welcome everyone to what is sure to be another fun-filled season of summer swimming with the MacDolphins. We are 163 swimmers strong this year with many activities planned for the season. Be sure to check the website between newsletters for all of the latest information!

What’s New

There has been a significant change this year in communications. Mike Walsh has created www.MacDolphins.org for the team to use. All the information you need throughout the season can be found here, including the newsletters. You can check the site at your leisure and have the information at your fingertips when you need – without sifting through old emails! We hope that you enjoy this new tool.

Please take the time to check the website. There is information being added and updated on a regular basis. Most recently:

  • Volunteer sheets for all meets: Please contact Lynn Thomas for changes
  • Glossary of terms: Includes volunteer positions and common swim terms
  • What is a Swim Meet?: Steps through the running of a meet
  • Coach Bios: Learn more about our wonderful coaches
  • Swim Records: Check out the fastest times by age group in meters and yards!
  • Swim-a-Thon: What it is & forms to download

Time Trials

Time trials are just around corner and are an important part of the season for a few reasons. First, it gives all swimmers the opportunity to establish a baseline time for the season. Second, it gives all new families the opportunity to see how a meet runs. Third, it gives the coaches the opportunity to watch all the swimmers under race conditions. Times for all participants will be collected and posted to the website by Friday June 13.

Time trials this year are June 10. Swimmers need to be on deck by 4:30 to get numbered and start warm-ups. The meet will begin at 5:15 and should conclude by 7:15. Volunteers report to the Meet Managers: Tracy Bodie and Beverly Speroff.

During the time trials, there will be an age group signing opportunity – be sure to bring your team shirt! The signing replaces the tie-dye activity that was scheduled for June 11. If you have not picked up your team shirt, see Mike Mitchell at the pool

If you cannot make time trials please put your name on the “scratch” sheet posted on the bulletin board in the breezeway at the pool.

What to bring?

First and foremost everything that is brought needs to have a name on it. This is the only way items that are lost, accidentally picked up by someone else, or just don’t make it home find their way back to the rightful owner.

Team t-shirt – if you have not picked yours up, see Mike Mitchell at the pool.

The swimmers will need something to sit on (a towel or chair), towels (more than 1) to dry off, goggles (a spare pair is handy), swim caps (especially for the girls to keep their hair out of their eyes), “busy” materials (games, books, etc…), swimsuit and a great attitude.

Cary City Meet

This year the Cary City Meet is being held June 28th at Scottish Hills. Registration for this event has started. Forms are availabe on the bulletin board in the breezeway at the pool. All registrations must be received by June 17th. 10 and younger swimmers participate in the morning session; 11 and older swimmers participate in the afternoon session. Lani DeForest and Sherri Barham are the MDCC volunteer coordinators for this event. You may contact them to register or with any questions. Information is also availabe on the MacDolphins website for this event.
