Coaches Corner 7/8/2011

Hello MacDolphins!

I hope everyone had a great 4th of July holiday!  Unfortunately the weather has wreaked havoc with our meet/practice schedule , but hopefully next week will be a bit sunnier.  We tried to swim the Highcroft Hurricanes on Tuesday, but we only got through the medley relays.  So we called it a tie and it’s on to the Park Village Porpoises this next week.  It is our last away meet of the season and everyone needs to be there at 5:00 pm.  Many thanks to the volunteers who prepared an excellent meet for us this past week!

Although our practice schedule has been shortened due to thunderstorms, we have been able to work on freestyle and breastroke technique a bit.  If you are in the water with your swimmer this weekend, encourage them to practice swimming with long strokes.  Powerful strokes beat spinning wheels every time.  We have also had a great turnout at our turn clinic on Thursday mornings these past couple of weeks and I can really see a difference in practice and the meets.  Good job 11 & ups!

Next Wednesday (July 13th) is the team trip to Emerald Point! All MacDolphin families are invited to join the coaches for a fun day at the water park.  Please arrive at the pool parking at 8:00 am so that Miriam Beck can collect everyone’s admission.  The fees are $26 per person over 48” and $18 for junior admission (under 48”).  Each swimmer is responsible for their own transportation and must be accompanied by a guardian over the age of 18.  Tickets will be distributed once we arrive at the park.  If the meet on Tuesday is moved to Wednesday due to weather, we will travel to Emerald Point on Thursday.  Swim Practice will be canceled for whichever day we end up going.  It is sure to be a ton of fun!

Thank you a million times to all the parents/volunteers who make swim team possible.  I am so proud of the progress the swimmers have made!

Please contact me with any questions/concerns/comments!
