Coaches Corner 5/26/2011

Hello MacDolphins!

I just want to say that this first week of practices has been awesome! Luckily the water has not been too cold and all the kids have been a pleasure to teach. Every Thursday I will be posting an update on how the team is doing, what we are working on, the results of the meets and just general announcements. If you ever have any questions, suggestions, and/or concerns, please feel free to come up to me between practices, or email me at elyselder@aol.com.

This week the other coaches and I have begun to re-introduce freestyle and breastroke. Basic form, especially kicking, is an important base for any swimmer, so we will be working on technique for the next couple of weeks. Next week we will move onto backstroke and butterfly. We have also begun working on turns for the 11 & Ups. The 6 & Unders have started on backstroke instead of freestyle as it is an easier transition from freestyle, but they will learn breastroke as well next week.

KB, Meredith and I are offering private lessons this summer if your child has something specific they would like to work on, or if you would just like them to have more one-on-one attention. Our contact information is up on the board at the pool, but I’ve also included it here:

Elyse:   elyselder@aol.com; 919-522-7690
KB: klburnette1024@email.campbell.edu; 919-332-3465
Meredith: 919-723-8272

If your child does not yet have a MacGregor cap, or goggles, I would greatly encourage them to get some. Not only do caps inspire team unity, but they also help your child swim faster. Goggles protect their eyes from the chlorine and also help them from running into the lane ropes.

Saturday morning practices do not start until schoool lets out the week of June 13th and there is NO PRACTICE on Memorial DAy so I will see you all on Tuesday!  Again, if you have any questions and/or concerns please come find me. Thanks again for a great first week!

Elyse
